Mathias (Bud) Deeter and Cora Ingram settled on 40 acres of landgiven to them by Bud's parents, William and Catherine Deeter,and remained in Arkansas for ten years before making their firsttrip to Washington. After one year in Whatcom County,Washington, Bud and Cora returned to Arkansas until 1907, whenthey moved to Washington permanently. They bought 40 acres ofstump and brush covered land three miles south of Sumas, alongSumas Creek. They cleared the land, built a road and raisedhay, grain, and raspberries along with 10-15 Jersey dairy cows.The house Bud and Cora built and raised six kids in stood alongwhat is now samed Deeter Road. William Deeter's 80 acresadjoined Bud and Cora's 80.
Bud was well educated in the public schools in Lawrence County,Ak and a wise business man. He was public welfare minded whenit came to schools, roads, and charitable objects.
