Narrative

Getchell, p. 17 states: "The identity of his wife Jane is not known...She was in all likelihood the daughter, or young widow (?), of another early colonist. She would probably have been too young to have been married to William Berry in England before 1631 which is the date given for his arrival in America. Could she have been one of the twenty-two women sent to the colony by Capt. Mason?"

A number of secondary sources consider her name to have been Hermes, but there is no independent evidence of this.
