Verne O. "Mope" Wahler

Verne O. "Mope" Wahler, 83, Arkansas City, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield. Memorial graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, in the Springside Cemetery in Arkansas City. There will be no visitation as cremation has been effected. Born on July 19, 1920, in Orlando, Okla., he was the son of Harry Otis and Flossie May Borel Wahler. He managed and later owned a chain of gas stations in California. Survivors include one son, Hugh Wahler of Agoura Hill, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia Lee (Gage); and one brother, Thigh Otis Wahler.
A memorial has been established with the Kansas Veterans Home. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home, Arkansas City.
