Event Note
It is not known when Godfrey and his family left England for New England. He can be placed in New Hampshire in 1639 when he signed the Exeter Combination along with 35 other men who were followers of the Reverend John Wheelwright. Wheelwright had been banished from Massachusetts along with his sister in law Anne Hutchinson after she angered the ruling elite with her outspoken views on religion. She and her family went to Rhode Island, and then to New York where she was killed by Indians in 1643. |
