  Narrative

I had just copied parents Thomas Edmundson and Grissell Coleman from ancestry.com public member tree by elvaj22, but the ages are wrong - Richard's father could not have been 12 years old! So I have replaced with Bryant Edmondson and Mary Haile - clearly the Edmondson's and Haile's were close for generations.

Wikitree page for Richard refers to "Twig Tree And Treasure A Genealogical Sojourn" at Rootsweb.com, the following stated to be from Beverly Brunelle:
Bryant is listed in his father's will, proved in 1715, but apparently written some years earlier. Whether son of Thomas' first or second wife is not clear. He was left land on the east side of the Samuel Perry Swamp.
Bryant Edmundson witnessed a deed January 13, 1714/15 when James Edmundson sold land to his brother Samuel Edmundson.
Bryant sold a tract of land given to him by his father, Thomas, in 1718 to James Edmundson. (See Meade's account published in Tyler's Quarterly, Vol. 7, p. 185) He signed bond for Samuel Edmondson as executor of the estate of Andrew McColpin, Dec. 18, 1722 (Essex Wills, Bonds and Inventories, 1722-30).
Bryant Edmondson and Mary his wife deeded land to John Coxton, March 14, 1725 (Essex Deeds, Book 18, pp. 166-7). Bryant proved the will of Alexander Younger, July 17, 1727. Payment was made to Bryant from the estate of Anthony North, Sept. 18, 1728 (Essex Wills, etc.) He lived in Caroline County, Virginia, west of Essex, which was formed from upper parts of Essex, King and Queen, and King William in 1725. The surviving records of Caroline, primarily court records, show "Bryan Edmoundson" and five others were fined in 1737 for "tending seconds" in violation of tobacco production laws and had to pay 1000 pounds of tobacco as penalty. He assisted in 1737 with the care of two public wards, John and Charles Walton, who were bound to him. He served once on the jury in the years 1732-45, jurymen chosen by the magistrates from landholders in whom they had confidence. It appears he moved away to North Carolina in the late 1740's as the Caroline County Order Book, 14 March, 1748/49 states "Francis Hale is appointed overseer of the road from the county road to the Ivey Church in the room of Bryant Edmondson".
A deed from Bryant Edmondson and his wife, dated August, 1748, disposes of property in Caroline (Virginia Mag. Hist., p. 204). He was in Edgecombe Co NC in 1751 as a deed in Essex County, dated October 29, conveyed land in Essex from Bryant Edmundson and his wife Mary of Edgecombe to Hugh Wilson of Virginia. Mary Edmondson was very probably the daughter of John Haile of Essex whose will, dated August 17, 1744, mentions his daughter Mary Edmondson. He named five other children: Francis Haile, John Haile, Thomas Haile, Benjamin Haile. John Haile's wife was probably Mary Haile who presented the will for probate Oct. 16, 1744. Wife Mary Haile and son John Haile were executors. James Allen and Andrew Allen were witnesses. Francis Haile (Hale) was likely the man who replaced Bryant Edmondson as overseer of the road in Caroline County, Virginia. (See WILLS OF ESSEX COUNTY, p. 214).
Members of the Haile family moved to Edgecombe County and lived near the Edmondsons. Bryant Edmondson witnessed a deed in Edgecomb Precinct for transfer of land from William Reves of Edgecombe to Francis Myrick of Edgecombe. Other witnesses: Benjamin Haile and James Crewin, October 18, 1751. Registered May Court, l752 (Deed Book 4, p. 257). James Reves and wife Millicent deeded 200 a. on south side of Great Quankey Creek in 1753 for 25 pounds to Bryant Edmondson, adjoining former lands of Peter Jones, Thomas Matthis and Robert Wood, part of a grant to William Williams, May 7, 1730. Registered May Court, 1753. Witnesses: John Potts, William Carpenter (Deed Book 4, p. 448). Bryant Edmondson was chain carrier for survey of a Granville Grant to John Eelbank, surveyed Oct. 3, 1754, in Edgecombe Precinct, Halifax County. Other chain carrier was William Edmondson and surveyor was John Haywood. Land joined James Reeves, McCullohs Corner and little Quankey Creek (Granville Grants, Vol. II, by Hofman). Bryant and William were probably sons of Bryant and Mary Haile Edmondson. August 15, 1755, Bryant Edmondson and Sarah his wife of Edgecombe County sold to Mary Edmondson 100 acres more or less on the south side of Great Quankey Creek and joining Brewer's Branch and the creek part of the tract said Bryant purchased of James Reeves for 15 pounds current money of Virginia. Witnesses were Benjamin Haile, Thomas Smith and Joseph Edmondson. Registered November Court, 1755 (Edgecombe Deeds, 1732-1758, p. 363). Bryant witnessed a deed March 6, 1756, when Daniel Elbank of Lunenburg County, Va., sold 1730 acres on both sides of Quankey Creek to Montfort Eelbeck of Edgecombe (Deed Book 6, p. 227). Bryant Edmonson is shown as bounding owner adjoining a Granville grant to Edward Crossland in St. Mary's Parish, Edgecombe, surveyed April 13, 1756, 658 acres. Chain carriers were Robert Williams and Joseph Edmondson. Other bounding owners were Lod. Alford, Thomas Smith and Mary Edmondson (Deed Book 7, p. 287).
Bryant Edmondson, carpenter, bought land in Onslow County to the south in 1759 from Richard Farr. Bryant Edmondson of Onslow County sold 100 acres south of Great Quankey Creek "where Bryant Edmondson now lives" to John Potts of Halifax County for 12 pounds, Dec. 8, 1760. The land adjoined John Eelbeck, Wm. Clement and William Green, Jr. (Deed Book 7, p. 165). This might suggest his father might be still living in 1760. The will of Bryant, son of Bryant and Mary, in Onslow County, is dated 1769. It names wife Sarah, sons James, Richard and William and daughters Mary and Elizabeth. James and William appear to have remained in the area and Richard is thought to have moved to Tennessee, Missouri and Illinois.
See further N.C. records compiled by Stephen W. Edmondson.

So the Francis Haile family was close the Bryant Edmonson family.
