Minnie Lea Gage February 22, 1937 - October 13, 2013

Minnie Lea Gage, 76 of Arkansas City, Kansas, passed away on Sunday afternoon, October 13, 2013 at South Central Kansas Medical Center in Arkansas City, Kansas.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Hawks-Shelley Funeral Home in Arkansas City, KS. Burial will follow at Springside Cemetery southeast of Arkansas City, KS. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in Mrs. Gage’s name with the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Minnie was born on February 22, 1937 in Eufaula, Oklahoma to Garfield and Flossie Treat. At the young age of 6 years old, she and her family moved to Arkansas City, Kansas. On November 18, 1964, she was united in marriage to John Loyd Gage in Newkirk, Oklahoma. Minnie was a homemaker and loved caring for her children. Minnie also worked for 17 years for General Electric as a parts handler and retired in 1997. Minnie was a longtime member of the Trinity Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

Her family includes her husband of 48 years, John of the home; her sons Leland Bruton of Salina, Kansas and John Gage, Jr. and wife Michele of Arkansas City, KS; her daughter, Cindy and husband Dr. Hal Hale of Derby, KS; her sisters, Betty Dorman and husband Wayne, and Kathy Robins both of Arkansas City, KS and her brother, Jerry Treat and wife Barbara of Arkansas City, KS; her 6 granddaughters and 2 grandsons. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dwyatt D. Bruton in 1964, her parents and 2 brothers, Bill Treat and R.D. Treat.
