She graduated from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and studied piano in Paris 1927-28. Verna then taught at the Nashville Conservatory of Music prior to continuing her education at Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY. She was a professor at UMKC from 1946 until her retirement. Verna taught piano for 77 years. (ship passenger France to NY on June 13, 1927)

message from Kyle - she was my grandparent substitute when I returned to KC late '80's. She was universally adored for her sweet and gentle nature. I had the pleasure of listening to her perform a few times for private audiences, and her musical gifts were extraordinary. She could have easily been a touring concert pianist, but preferred the satisfaction of teaching.

she was engaged once before when young but never married until she was 69!
