Narrative

Just guessing from 1840 US Census of Washington County, LA. Only Yarboroughs there are:

Joseph age 30-39 (m20-29 living in hh)
Joshua age 30-39
Gideon age 50-59 (wife age 40-49)(m20-29 living in hh)

Only other record I could find was a "Gideon Yarber" in St Tammany, LA 1820).

Posts on genforum confirm: Cy Yarbrough:
Gideon Yarborough was the son of Joshua Yarborough Jr., and his wife Susannah Thompson. His grandfather was Joshua Yarborough Sr., born ca. 1710-1715 in Va. Found in Caroline Co., Va. 1736-37, Orange Co., Va., 1737-46, Amelia Co., Va.,
1746-1749, Granville Co., N.C. (later Bute, later Franklin Co.) 1755-1779, died in Franklin Co., N. C., ca. 1780? Joshua Jr.
moved to Mecklenburg Co., N.C., ca.1780's. In 1790 and 1800 Mecklenburg Co., N. C. census. Moved to Chester Co.,
S.C., ca. 1806 in 1810 & 1820 Chester Co., S.C., census. Joshua Jr. born ca. 1740, Va., died ca. 1820's, Chester Co., S.C.
Gideon Yarborough's known brothers are: Joshua III, (my g-g-g-g-grandfather) who lived in Chester Co., S.C., later migrating to Campbell Co., (now Fulton) Ga., where he died ca. 1833, Jeptha, migrated to Chambers (later Lee) Co., Ala., died there in 1850's, and Benjamin Yarborough, who lived in Ga. I believe Gideon went to La. to fight with Andrew Jackson in war of 1812 and stayed.

From LeNelle White:
Gideon came through KY in 1801 on his way to LA. His son, Joshua, was born there in 1801. He arrived in Washington Parish, LA, around 1806. He was given headrights by the US Govt "east of Franklinton and Bogue Chitto River". He had at least one other child, maybe more, or grandkids living with him in the 1840 Census. I'm working on tracking that information down now. His son, Joshua, married Lourana Bickham abt 1828. They had four children: Benjamin Franklin Yarborough b:5/6/1834 d:12/9/1912, Sarah M. b:1836 d:bef 1889, David W.b:4/13/1838 d:10/27/1913, and Thomas B.b:5/20/1841 d:6/18/1897. Joshua and Lourana died of yellow fever on 1/29/1845 and 1/26/1845 respectively. They left their orphaned children to the care of two of Lourana's brothers. Sarah lived the rest of her life in LA. The three boys eventually made their way to Texas.
