"On Jan 5, 1737/8 John King of Raynham, Gent. and Thomas Gaige, of Freetown, Yeomen, for L2,500 deeded to John Winslow of Freetown, joyner, land in Freetown, Mass. This deed was witnessed by William Gaige and Joseph Reed Jr. This is the last deed to which it appears Thomas Gaige was a party. He was called Cloathier in 1715 and 1717, trader in 1719 and yeoman in 1729 and 1738."
from "William Gage of Freetown, Mass. and his descendants...", Clyde VanTassel Gage
He was a Clothier (Cloth dresser). Records show his occupations as a clothier, a trader, and a yeoman (a British term, meaning "one who cultivates his own land"). Research by Clyde Gage believes that Thomas Gage may have been married before he came to Freetown, Mass., and she died, leaving one son, so he speculated that William Montgomery Gage was Thomas' son. It's possible Thomas is just William's older brother however.
