Event Note
The Neptune sailed from the London port in March/April 1618, chartered by the Virginia Company. When the Neptune arrived in Jamestown in August, William Cole was among the survivors. Tillingham, a seafront farming village, was located about 55 miles northeast of London in Essex county; the proximity to the London port suggests this is the William Cole of Virginia named in the will of Humphrey Cole, the vicar at Tillingham, along with a brother, Thomas, who arrived in Accomack county in 1632, and a sister, the wife of John George, who also immigrated to Virginia. (These are the relationships as shown in British Roots of Maryland Families |
