Narrative

George Parker was born in Margate, Kent, England, about 1611/12 and baptized on March 7 in St John's Church, Margate, Kent, England. He is believed to come to America in 1635 with Frances Darbye, who was also born in Kent in 1613. They settled in the Portsmouth, Rhode Island colony, were married there in 1636, and joined the Quaker movement. George Parker was also elected Sergeant in 1655 shortly before his death in 1656.[1][2]

Following the English take over of New Netherlands in 1664, three of his children, Peter, Joseph, and Meribah (Slocum), and their spouses left Rhode Island and moved to Shrewsbury, New Jersey, claiming homesteads under the Monmouth Patent.

George may have been a passenger on the Elizabeth and Ann in 1635. There was another George Parker who may have been this man.

George Parker appears in Portsmouth September 15, 1638. (RICR 1:60) where he died (RICR 1:347, 350).
