Preachers of early Surry Co, NC:
“But the old preachers of an early day had many hardships to encounter. I will mention some of their names. Of the Methodist–Thos. Bryant, Wiley Patterson, James Needham, John Hix and Right Johnson, and later on William Rawley and one of the Roberts. Of the Baptists–John Jones and Jonah Cockerham. The Methodists generally, except Rawley and Roberts, were very poor men who did the most of their traveling on foot.”

Hicks, Frederick | about 1750 | before 1806 |
Family of Hicks, John Sr and (Hicks), Mary Catherine
will of John Hixt Senior of Stokes County, NC mentions:
wife Catharine Hixt
daughter in law Polly Hixt
granddaughter Sally Hixt
John Hixt, Jr
Abraham Hixt removed away,
and minor children
==> so children born after 1788 would have still been minors in 1806.
Catharine is 21 years younger than John, Sr and therefore probably a 2nd wife. Any children born before ~1768 could have been from the first marriage.
this family just a guess from proximity in the census. some family lore is that Prudence Hicks children and Elizabeth Hicks children were cousins. This could be because both Hicks men were brothers, or if Elizabeth and Prudence were both Forkum's , or both!
It is likely, but unproven, that George Hicks was related to Jacob Hicks. See that family in my database.
If the Hicks arrived with the Huffines and Forkums from Stokes Co, NC, could be John or Thomas Hicks of Salisbury, NC 1800 Census.
Page mentions Thomas is son of Jacob Hicks - http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?thomas,stokes::hicks::10299.html
