"For additional information about John Chamberlin, the Quaker, his origins, siblings, parents, etc., refer to "The Two Henry Chamberlins of Hingham, Massachusetts: 1638 -1649", by David Conrad Chamberlin, Sr., in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register, Vol. 139, April 1985, pp. 126-138. This is the most authoritative and comprehensive article ever published about this particular family, and I recommend that all Chamberlain/lin researchers familiarize themselves with it. Among other things, it provides details, after his becoming a Quaker, of John(2) Chamberlin's severe mistreatment by Boston authorities, being repeatedly whipped and driven through towns, then imprisoned and banished for his beliefs, despite a petition for mercy on his behalf by his father and brother. It is a compelling account of early religious bigotry and persecution, quite similar to that which Catherine Chatham incurred.
See also, the publication, Chamberlain Chain, Branch 74, Vol. 13, Nov. 1992, which also gives an extensive account of John's persecution, and that of his second wife, Catherine Chatham, taken from "John Chamberlain, The Quaker", by Eben Putman, CAA Reports, 1906-1907, pp. 61-64. "
