from William L Hix at http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/h/i/x/Christopher--L-Hix/index.html
"In the late 1700's or early 1800's, three women bearing the surname Hicks crossed the mountains from North Carolina and into the Indian Lands now known as Tennessee. Elizabeth, Prudence, and Temperance Hicks settled into the wilderness just north of the Cumberland River near the present day Jackson County, Tennessee. Little is known of these women except for the fact that they were born in North Carolina. So far the identity of their spouses have remained elusive. Joseph Hicks, son of Prudence, claimed in a Civil War document that his father died in the fall of 1833 in Warren County, Tennessee and that no records were kept...."
Believe this is Prudence Forkum who married George Hicks 1817 in Surry. in 1830 Warren Co, TN, George Hicks family matches their ages:
1830: Warren Co, TN: m5-9, m30-39, f<5, f10-14, f20-29
unknown daughter is probably Rebecca who married William Moses Kernel. They named a daughter Prudence.
