Hansford and kinsmen, 1642-1957; a family history
Martha Hansford daughter of Charles Hansford ( John ) married Samuel Hill . This is proved by a deed dated January 24 , 1709 when 3 John Hansford gave a small piece of land to his " loving sister Martha Hill , the wife of Samuel Hill . " ( 313 ) She was married before July 1702 because in her father's will Samuel Hill was called Charles Hansford's son - in - law . John Hansford , her brother , was appointed guardian of the orphans of Samuel Hill , deceased , May 19 , 1718. ( 314 ) We also find that John Hansford settled the estate of Samuel Hill , deceased , administered by Martha Hill . An inventory was made the same day . ( 315 ) The inventory and appraisal of the estate was recorded June 25 , 1718. ( 316 )
Martha Hansford Hill , after becoming a widow , operated an ordi- nary . The following record is included here because it tells what was expected of a proprietress and regulations to which she had to conform .
