If Milton Carter is related to Delilah: http://www.carter-cousins.org/results/group_1.htm :
"Milton Carter, b. 1797. Kit # 18033 who could be one or two generations later than John Carter b. 1723, Levi Carter b. 1736 and Caleb Carter b. 1750. Since Milton Carter is not found in the known family tree for John, Levi, or Caleb it leaves open the door for him to be from Joseph Carter who settled on Lick Creek, Greene Co. TN with John, Levi and Caleb. I have found three census reports on Milton Carter in Al for the years of 1850, 1860 and 1870. On the 1850 census Marion Carter, son of Milton, is shown as being three years of age which agrees with data in Milton's Tree on http://www.carter-cousins.org."

Appears to be him -

"Unless we can locate a connection in the New Jersey area we may never know how John, Levi, Caleb and possibly Joseph are related. It would be helpful if Milton Carter and Thomas Carter could be tied to one of the four Carters that we know started in NJ. Also if Elbert S Carter could be firmly established to have been a descendant of Caleb Carter would be helpful."

Eventually realized this was her family (see notes in parents)
Stokes County, NC 1810, also has Henry Carter with numerous daughters of right age.
Neighbor to Jesse Prince in 1820 Census, Buncombe, NC:
Henry Carter 45+ could be her father (he is 50-59 in 1830; this is Henry Carter + Martha Parham m.1797 Wilkes)

ancestry.com public member trees are propagating error that this Delilah is d/o Joseph Carter and Martha Harris.

  Narrative

account by pimccoy on ancestry.com public member tree:
The first notation of Jesse is found in the 1820 census, Asheville, Buncombe Co., North Carolina; his son Jonathan Jones was about 2 years old. The family lived in Buncombe Co., until about 1825. During that time, they added 2 more children, William Henry and Elizabeth. It is assumed their parents were in the same area. Sometime about 1825, Jesse and Delilah (Carter) moved the family to Anderson Co., Tenessee. It is not known why they moved, perhaps part of the family had moved there. To get to Anderson Co., the family rafted down the French Broad River to Knoxville, Tennessee on the Tennessee, then northwest into Anderson Co. The land deed for Jesse shows his land adjoined that of an Elizabeth Prince, perhaps his mother? There were a number of Princes in the area. Records show Jesse in the county for the next years and the family is on the Anderson Co., Census for 1830. During this time, Preshia, Henry and Louvina were born. By 1831, records show they had moved to Indiana briefly, where Zachariah was, and daughter Martha Ann, was born there. It is unknown where in Indiana they went, so this trip was probably over land through Kentucky. By 1834, the family, along with brother Zachariah and family had moved back south to Jackson Co., Alabama. Jesse obtained land near Estillfork, and the family is shown there from 1840-1860 in the census. The family grew with the addition of Nathan, Sarah, George and Jesse Donald. There are some records in the old book from the Estillfork Store showing the family doing business there during this time. The land that Jesse owned is still in the family, owned by some gggrandsons. For many years the store at Estillfork was owned by a ggrandson, Pete Prince, who was also the postmaster. The land has grown to several thousand acres and is a hunting/fishing/campground lodge now.

Missed a critical paragraph: "Jesse and Delilah moved to Fannin County Ga, sometime after 1860 and died there about 1865. Many of the Prince family are buried in Jackson County AL, and there are still many relatives in the area."
[kdd: Fannin Co, GA is next to Gilmer Co, GA where Henry Carter & Martha Parham moved their family ]

Actually moved before 1860 because they are there already in the 1860 Census:
