Biographical details as recalled by Mathew in the application:
"Have you any record of your age and if so, where is it? Answer: I have none. My age was recorded in the family Bible of my father and when I left South Carolina, the Bible was left behind and I do not know what has become of it."
"Did you ever receive a discharge from the service and if so by whom was it given and what has become of it? Answer: I did receive several, some of them by General Pickens and some by Captains McCall and Miller, and before the close of the war my house was pillaged by the Tories and my discharges destroyed."
