"The Richey family were originally from Tennessee and were among the early settlers of Gibson County"
In this case, Joseph possibly son of Robert Richey , the Old Dandridge Blacksmith of Jefferson Co, TN [kdd: note Gideon Richey was a blacksmith in 1820 Census] http://genforum.genealogy.com/richey/messages/94.html
Also, Mary born in that part of NC 1795 which became TN in 1796.

Originally I had Nancy Rhea from Augusta Co, VA as wife of my Joseph Richey.
A "Joseph Richey of TN" in probate court July 1804:

, and I did not see any other Joseph or Nancy Richey's in early TN. However this appears now to be a different Joseph Richey.

Joseph's family possibly moved from TN to VA ~1796, because John was born in VA ~1797.
Vance Hawkins says the Woods came to Gibson Co, IN in 1806 and the Richey's sometime after the 1807 state census and before the 1812 when John Richey served in the Indiana Militia
Note however Joseph' children thru 1813 (except John) say they were born in TN or NC.
