Narrative

Long thought that her maiden name was Weaver based on Mary Smith Orcutt's listed parents in her death certificate, informant her son. I find this highly unlikely and cannot connect her to any known Weaver family in Cortland or Chautauqua. Instead, she marries Lyman Bumpus, widower, whose first wife was Content Ferrin. Her mother, Clarissa Harvey, lives with them in 1860. In the 1855 State Census Clarissa Smith says she was born in Cortland Co, NY and came to Chautauqua in 1823. In the same census, her mother says she came to Chautauqua in 1824. I conclude she was a Harvey. Confirmed that a descendant has DNA matches to Harvey/Gardner descendants.
