parents of Joseph just a guess based on
1) Robert's will -
http://genforum.genealogy.com/richey/messages/94.html
"Will of Robert Richey, The Old Dandridge Blacksmith
Robert Richey was a Dandridge Blacksmith, who died leaving will in
Jefferson County, dated Aug. 8, 1811. His wife’s name in the will was
Catherine (Kate) Richey.
His children were:
1. Joseph Richey
2. Isabella Richey, wife of a James Hunter
3. Jane Richey who married a man by the name of Samples, George Ray
married Hannah Samples in 1801.
Excutor: James Hunter and the son Joseph Richey
Witnessess: James Mayer and John Carson."
2) Nancy Rhea and Joseph Richey in Knox County, TN 1792 and other references that say "Joseph Richey of TN".
3) Richey's coming to Gibson County, IN ~1813 soon after Robert died.
4) Most of Joseph and Nancy Richey's children were born in NC/TN.
5) Richey's of VA, Robert, and Richey's of Gibson Co and descendants were often blacksmiths.
6) One daughter married in 1791 Greene before 2nd daughter married 1797 in Jefferson implies Robert Richey family was near other Richey's in Washington/Greene counties before moving to Jefferson.
alternate theory from Vance Hawkins:

another possibility, from http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~tngiles/charts/richey.htm
includes a number of coincidences - Thomas Richey married (2) ROSANNA TRIMBLE October 09, 1793 in Knox Co., Tennessee, daughter of John Trimble and Susannah Woods. Named a son Robert and spelled name "Richey". I believe they were at least related.
