"[Gene] Bridges played in various dance bands, including the Verne Byers Band that was well-known in Denver. He often did long summer stints at the Riverside Ballroom in Estes Park and sometimes in Grand Lake", said Doug Kliewer, who played trumpet in the same band. Bridges stopped playing "probably because, like the rest of us, he saw the handwriting on the wall," said Kliewer. "We couldn't make a living at it."

KLIEWER, DOUGLAS B. 74, passed away on August 24, 2005. Douglas was preceded in death by his wife Pixie. He is survived by his daughters Kim (John) Sharstrom, and Cassie (Steve) Cunningham; son Kris (Susan) Kliewer; brother Viron (Lorraine) Kliewer; also 5 grandchildren, Matthew, Randi, Scott, Charlotte, and Jeff. Visitation Tuesday evening at the funeral home, 4-8pm. Services Wednesday, 1pm at Newcomer Family West Metro Chapel. Interment Crown Hill Cemetery.
