Death cert of Sarah says parents were Jeff Green and Nancy Hicks, so I assume "Thomas J" was "Thomas Jefferson"
Children in 1880 Census say father/mother born:
John TN/TN
Louis TN/TN
Martha TN/TN
Sarah TN/TN
Thomas TN/NC
Ellis TN/TN
so that's not much help.
Court deposition confirms age: in 1868 Jackson County Chancery Court "Dep of Thomas J. Green aged 54 years"
This is very suspicious - unlikely this Thomas fought at 56 years of age -
Thomas J. Green Sr. served during the Civil War in Co A, 1st (McNairy's) Tennessee Cavalry Battalion (Confederate), also known as 1st West Tennessee and 1st Middle Tennessee Cavalry Battalion, a unit formed from Davidson County, Tennessee and nicknamed "The Tennessee Rangers".

residence: They live next to Joseph and Elisabeth Davenport in Jackson County, TN Twice the name of "Ellis" given. Son "Abram Ellis Green" and grandson "WIlliam Ellis Green". This suggests an Ellis in their tree. In the 1870 Census, TJ, Nancy, Polly, and John are all marked as unable to read or write. TJ under the "Deaf and Dumb, etc" column is marked as "aw". Census taker used this abbreviation frequently and I cannot find what it means. In no other census is a disabled condition indicated. |
