Narrative

note similarity with Jabez Harrington, son of Jabez Harrington + Abigail Smith on familysearch.org. That Jabez lived 1773-1826 in Holden, MA. Birthdate for that Jabez is coincidentally 08-11-1773 (found in Holden, Mass town records). The genealogy "Early generations of the family of Robert Harrington of Watertown, Massachusetts, 1634, and some of his descendants" does not include a son named Jabez in Jabez Harrington's family.

However, in 1800 Census, Hamilton, Chenango Co, NY, Joel, Abijah, and Jabez live side-by-side (Abijah settled there in 1800 - http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nymadiso/ham1784h.htm). In 1810, I(saac), J(oel), and J(abez) seem to have moved to Oneida County (could have been same place as new counties were formed then) In 1790, Abijah (older brother) is in Saratoga, Albany Co, NY with hh that could include brothers.

If not him, Jabez eldest known son was Ephraim, so a hunch might be father named Ephraim. Indeed there is an Ephraim and Sarah Harrington in Worcester, Mass, in birth records at the time. (Ephraim Harrington m Sarrah Bartlett 28 Nov 1765 in Brookfield) There's a suspicious gap in birth of their children in Brookfield when Jabez would have been born , but no record:

  Narrative

This started out being mostly speculative - based upon people living together in the 1850-1900 censuses, but I have since confirmed many of the details.

Lydia and Jabez alone in 1800 Census Hamilton, Chenango Co, NY (Note Sangerfield part of Chenango County then:
"Sangerfield was annexed to Oneida in 1804...By an act passed March 21, 1806, Madison County was formed from Chenango"

Two "J Harrington's" in 1810 - Joel would have had a large family by 1810, and one J has a much larger family, still family is too large in 1810 Oneida Co, NY to be all theirs (could be Abijah's?)

Jabez Harrington's family in 1830 Arkwright:
1m15-20 1m50-60 -> note , no girls? I believe they are staying with the oldest sister - Susan Harrington Orton since their mom died in 1823. Abiram's hh in 1830:

, so guessing these are probably Harringtons staying with Abiram and first wife, Sarah Ann, since his will of 1837 names no children.

In 1840, Susan Orton's hh has age matching Ephraim and Jabez Harrington.

Daughter, Sally Harrington Edwards death certificate confirms father is Jabez Harrington and mother is Lydia Skiff. Also says she was born in Sangersfield, Madison Co, NY in 1806 (Now Sangerfield, Oneida Co, NY - confirming he was in Oneida in 1810)

Ephraim Harrington's will lists sisters Mary Ann Potter, Sally Edwards, and Susan Orton.

        stone is worn and she had trouble reading it: "J Harrington Birth: Aug 12 Death: Feb. 7, 1856"
        however in photo I can see it say "Jabez Harrington"
