He was a radar guidance technician and instructor - joined the Navy as a private because he did not have 20/20
vision in both eyes (Due to red measles as a child) and they would not accept him in Officer's Training for that reason.
He reached the rank of Chief Petty Officer and served on the USS Boxer. He went over to Japan during the Korean War. During WWII he was statsioned in the Guam, Midway area.
In civilian life, he owned 165 acre farm in May Pearl (Ellis County) TX from 1945 to 1974 where he raised angus cows and planted cotton and maize crops. He also owned a 50 acre farm & homestead in Reagor Springs (Ellis County) TX from 1962 to 1972.
He taught school for the Texas Soil Conversation Service in the 40's and 50's. He went to work for General Electric as an electrical engineer in 1955. He worked for GE until 1968 then he returned to farming. In 1972 he moved to Lubbock TX. He taught school at Texas Tech University in the Electrical Engineering Lab until he retired with Parkinson's Disease @ 1980.
