Pension application clearly indicates name is Devenport. As he and Joseph were only "Davenports" in Botetourt County, and both used Devenport, and both born about 1750, I'm guessing they're brothers, however, the Pamunkey's claim he is the son of Glover and Ann Davenport
Joel Devenport enlisted on the 6th day of March 1777 at the town of New London Bedford [now in Campbell] County Virginia
into the company commanded by Capt. George Lambert 14th Virginia regiment
