Narrative |
The family lore for Matthew Deavenport by the way (we think he was brother of Daniel) states their father died young and their mother remarried. This is probably why we are missing records on their parents. We know a James and Edward in that generation, but James was still alive in 1788 when Daniel and Matthew were grown, so we guess their father was instead Edward. I will guess that died young means Edward died between 1773 and 1777, or long enough for Edward, Jr to be born. Also, it's generally the rule that someone is named Jr in the records only if their father is still alive.
John Scott Davenport thinks so too, based on inherited land, "James River Davenport Search": Final clue - Matthew Deavenport named a son "Thomas Daniel Deavenport" |
