Of that part of Springfield that was later incorporated as Longmeadow.

In 1796/7, the town voted to erect a monument in his memory and for his support of the church and schools. The inscription reads: Mr. Nathaniel Burt a respected and worthy Father of the town of Longmeadow was born A.D. 1636 and died Sept. 29, 1720. This monument is erected to his memory by the said Town as a token of gratitude for donations in land made by him to them for the support of the gospel and public schools. 'Is 32.8 The liberal deviseth liberal things and by liberal things shall stand.' [4]
