"FROM AN ERIE, PA NEWSPAPER - 1925:

STATES PAIR SETTLED HERE 109 YEARS AGO TODAY by Elijah Crowe.

Zopher and Lois Davis (PORTER) arrived at Conneaut now Washington township, one hundred and nine years ago today, where they lacated on a two hundred acre farm purchased at the time from the Rev. Oliver Alford for the sum of fourteen hundred dollars.
Besides Mr. Davis and his wife there were six daughters, four sons, two sons in law and two grandsons in this party. The sons in law who accompanied the family party were: Captain Reuben Sharpe and Captain James Courtney who were married to Lois and Polly Davis respectively. Beulah Davis was subsequently married to Abner Holmes. Philena married William McLallen and Durah married Alva Gardner and Absolom married Desire Drake, William married Louisa Thomas, Daniel married Polly McLallen and Sarah married Benjamin Briggs and young Zopher died young, and with the exception of Beulah Davis Holmes, the entire family is buried in Erie County.
M. L. Davis candidate for Judge and Prof. Carter W. Trow of Erie are grandsons of William and Louisa.
Zophar Davis was of Welsh ancestry while his wife Lois came from Irish stock.
Mrs. Oliver Alford was a sister of Mrs. Zophar Davis and the mother of the late Noah Jewett of Waterford.
Mrs. Richard Gage, Mrs. John Hodges (Theodosia) Mrs. P. Isherwood and Ira Alford are the children of Reverend and Mrs. Alford, resided during their lives a little north of Cambridge Springs. At one time the Alfords family resided on the Jewett farm 4 miles north of Waterford.
The present site of McLallen's Corners is relatively in the center of the original Alford-Davis farm. "
