Porter, Noah 1a
Birth Name | Porter, Noah |
Gender | male |

Narrative
In DAR "Roles of Honor" a Lieut. Noah Porter Vol42,pg59 and Vol44,pg354 (the Charleston 4th), altho Bard Prentiss' research indicates this is almost certainly our Noah's nephew, brother James' son. Instead, our Noah was an undocumented member of the rescue party sent to supply the Rogers Rangers on his return from the St Francis raid. "He gave a deposition for a court martial in connection with it. I have a copy of his signature on a 1760s land transaction where he identifies himself as a Lieut." [Bard Prentiss , private msg]
In book, " Death Seem'd to Stare: The New Hampshire and Rhode Island Regiments at Valley Forge":
Noah Porter, Private Jan 1, 1778 for 3 years with the First Regiment, Farwell Company

"Noah Porter, grandfather of George W. Porter, of Ferrisburgh, once said that he crossed Otter Creek, in one of those years, with a scouting party on the rocks at the head of the falls (the deep channels have since been blasted out), and he and his party were so impressed with the wild and chaotic features of the scene that they spent some time in viewing the falls. He said the west channel appeared very small and was so filled with floodwood you would hardly notice there was any channel there ; that there were several beaver houses built on the floodwood."
Buried at Porter Cemetery, Ferrisburg, VT. Age 93, so birth date is probably incorrect.
See Bard Prentiss timeline of Noah Porter's life.
