Huffines, Daniel Harrison
Birth Name | Huffines, Daniel Harrison |
Gender | male |
Age at Death | about 55 years |
Narrative
1850 Jackson Co "Daniel H Buphines" 1826 TN
1860 Jackson Co "Daniel Kewfhus" 1818 TN (birthyear illegible)
1870 Jackson Co "D H Huffhines" 1822 TN
1880 Lynn, Posey Co, IN "Daniel Huffhine" age 50 ( or born 1830 ) TN
kdd: "Since Daniel and Sarah were married young, probably in Jackson County, TN (so their divorce case says), I am assuming he is the son of one of the 3 Huffines brothers who moved there from NC - Adam, Daniel, or William. Known offspring of these three do not account for one son of Adam and 2 sons of William. In addition Daniel's first son was named William, so I conclude William b.1790 NC is the most likely father of Daniel H." ==> Now in 2020, Daniel's 3rd marriage record confirms who his parents were.
Sarah says she is divorced in the 1880 US Census.
"1873 - Jackson County, Tennessee Chancery Court Loose Records - Rolls 43-130 - J. W. CARVER vs D. H. HUFFINES" [Only Daniel had initials "D H Huffines" in Jackson County]
"23 Dec. 1871.
. . . he and defendant built a gristmill in Jackson Co. on Wartrace Creek in partnership in the year 1869 . . .
The defendant is refusing to pay the complainant his share of the proceeds. Also there is a dispute about sharing of costs."

US Civil War Soldier? Numerous Huffines from Jackson Co, TN served in 8th Regiment, TN Cavalry. One is "Daniel B Huffine" who could be Daniel Huffines b. 1848 Jackson Co, TN, but in family trees, he is "Daniel Marion Huffines" and did not serve in the Civil War. Also another "Daniel B Huffine" b.1787 NC came to Jackson Co, TN (I believe he is Daniel H's uncle). Veteran application from Daniel B Huffine who served in the 8th TN Cavalry indicates he was from Johnson City, Washington Co, TN.
No record online of Daniel or Elizabeth after 1880. Very odd ref tho to "D.H. Huffines" of Gainesboro is a Licentiate at Sparta, TN Presbytery (pg.286) in 1894. Only known Daniel's there in 1880/1900 are Daniel Asbury Huffines and Daniel Frank Huffines. Sparta in White Co, TN. Especially curious since his brother Elisha was a minister.
https://books.google.com/books?id=fG5QAQAAMAAJ&dq=%22Huffines,+D+H%22
The 1900 Assembly however mentions only D F Huffines of Highland,TN in Sparta Presbytery.
Final reference is the marriage of Daniel and Susan Davis 1883 in Hamilton Co, IL. The record books - and probably other county records - are not online. Susan Davis was a widower in the 1900 census.

"One connection could possibly be D. H. Huffine of Jackson Co. TN. In 1873 his wife divorced him. There is a D. H. Huffine who then married Julie Roland in Williamson Co. IL in 1874. William A. Huffine was the affiant on their marriage license. If it's the same D.H., possibly he came to Williamson Co. due to relatationship to William A. and Martha."

Vince Miller says it is found in the "Hamilton County Illinois marriage register book 1 page 88 record 24 marriage #5695"
"Daniel is shown as 57 years old, born in TN with parents as William Huffines and Peggy Smith. The record also confirms it was his fourth marriage. Susan (Davis) Ellis is 47 years old born in KY with parents as Robert Davis and Mary Bell. The record also states that this was her third marriage. The marriage apparently took place in "Jefferson City, Hamilton Co., IL". This place no longer exists. The witness was Bailey McGhee and the marriage was certified by D H Lasater, JP."
