see bio here: "Daniel W Myers" http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/archives/1918ks/biof/franeyh.html
bought land from Orange M Gage in Nemaha Co, KS Mar 25, 1896
In a beneficiary application 1899, he was asked "Which do you resemble in general charactistics, father or mother?". He answered "Mother"!
He filled out a property assessment form in Mr Park, OK in 1903, and his writing has significantly deteriorated.
The few photos I have of Daniel in last few years of his life, he looks very feeble. Lela wrote in a letter to her mother 1917 (paraphrased) "Daddy would be mad at me, but I suppose he would soon forget", which suggests he had senility. His obit says he died "after an illness of seven years, which had kept him bedfast." In a letter dated Feb 4, 1918 after finding out her father died, Lela wrote, 'Dear old dad, he certainly suffered "Hell" the last 6 or 8 yrs. of his life and so I feel God will take care of him now.'
From "The Arkansas City Daily News" obit of Jan 4 1918 - "Daniel Myers and family moved from this section to Kansas City in 1910, and they will be remembered by many of our people as a highly respected family...."

From Ollie Myers WW1 Draft Registration:
From Lela Myers passport application: Lela sent back a stream of letters from Oct 1917 to July 1919 while touring in Cora Youngblood Corson's band. However none of them mention communicating with Daniel. They ask about his poor health instead. In one she says "papa would be angry...but would probably soon forget", so I believe he had some dementia. She was in England when he died. In her journal, she wrote only "Feb. 4 news of father's death" Buried next to Daniel and Adah in Riverview Cemetery is "Elizabeth Myers b.Dec 29, 1904". Since Adah says in 1910 she is mother of 8, with 8 still living, I believe Elizabeth could be daughter of Virgil and Cora. She would have died before the KS State Census in 1905. |
