He was a history/english teacher all his life in Huntsville, AL, beloved by his students. After he retired he travelled all over the country by bus, making friends and spreading good will. His sister Mary told me he had taught for 43 years. For example, here -

40th Reunion for the Class of 1966 mentions:
"A lot of special stories were shared in the room where Mr. Joe D. Hall taught senior English."
One of his students wrote me: "He was a character and could make a story come alive. He was also ambidextrous. He was a really good teacher and I loved him. Anyone that can make literature interesting, in my book, is an excellent teacher. He kept to himself mostly. "

hmmm, could just be a coincidence of names - I thought he never married: obit of "Dorothy Williamson Hall" Dorothy Williamson Hall, 88, of Greenbrier, died Jan. 1, 2007, at NorthCrest Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3 (today) in the chapel of Austin and Bell Funeral Home in Greenbrier, with Bro. Doug Downing officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held noon until the time of the service. Austin & Bell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Hall was born Nov. 11, 1918, in Nashville, to Matt and Elizabeth Malberry Williamson. She worked as a homemaker and was a member of Goodlettsville First Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Daniel Hall; sons, Joseph Daniel Hall and George Thomas Hall; and sisters, Martha Hardeman and Mary Joyce Hagar. She is survived by son, Ray Lynn (Kay) Hall of Greenbrier; daughter-in-law, Brenda Hall of Niceville, Fla.; sisters, Elizabeth Worsham of Goodlettsville, and Katherine Kinle of Greenbrier; five grandchildren, Tyler Ray Hall, Brandon M. Teel, Kristeen Hall, Debbie Hall and Susan Hall; and a great-grandchild, Matt Hall. |
