Shared same birthday with his mom.

We kids had many fond memories of Uncle Jim, especially in the couple of years after our dad left when he was around much more often and before MS immobilized him. He'd take us out at night for a root beer in his big red Chevrolet Convertible and on camping trips to the Ozarks. Mom visited him faithfully every couple of weeks at a distant nursing home after he became bedridden. He was an extraordinarily kind and gentle soul, and no one deserved less than him such a slow debilitating death.

Vera wrote in her last letter, July 9, 1964, "So glad Jimmie is getting along. Seems all our prayers have been answered. Bless him and may he continue to prosper. He is such a wonderful person he certainly deserves some good breaks for a change..." I believe this refers to Jim's job managing a luggage store in downtown KC.

His daughter said, "He was a nice person? He once brought home a tramp and cleaned him up and fed him. He cared about things..."
