Narrative
my mother. She was a model before she was 10. Went to SMU, UNT, and KU. Homemaker. Many odd service jobs to support her 3 children on a small child support payment. Her favorite was probably being a legal aid at "LASA" (Legal Aid to Senior Adults) where her generosity and sincere concern enabled her to help people deal with government red tape. Her hero, Ronald Reagan, shut down the program. After that she became an Avon Lady and had a large loyal customer base. She committed herself to Christ and regularly studied the bible ( a born-again fundamentalist, they call it). She had many true friends, and she seemed most happy when talking to them for endless hours on the phone. She was diagnosed with COPD in 2001 and entered hospice in 2003, but she held on much longer than expected.
She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
In her baby book, her mother wrote she was named after both Lela's sister Vera and Lavera Seltzer (Lavera Stotler 1877-1952 of Emporia, KS). The Seltzer's lived not far from the McRoberts in Wichita, but I think they may have met thru the Witherspoons. Lavera was staying with Miss Susie Witherspoon in Emporia in 1950 who is connected to "The Witherspoons of Gibson Co, IN", who lived in Patoka and Princeton also. I suspect Lavera Seltzer was Lee's godmother - she bequeathed $1000 to Lee in her will of 1950.
